The Ultimate Guide to Joining the Apple Intelligence Waitlist
Apple has rolled out developer beta 1 for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, introducing a cutting-edge suite of features under the Apple Intelligence umbrella. However, users eager to dive into these AI capabilities will first need to join a waitlist. Here’s everything you need to know about this process and what to expect from the latest update.
Joining the Apple Intelligence Waitlist
Installation Process: After installing the new betas, users will not immediately access Apple Intelligence features. Instead, Apple has implemented a waitlist system. Follow these steps to join:
- Open Settings on your device running iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, or macOS 15.1.
- Navigate to the Apple Intelligence & Siri menu.
- Tap ‘Join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist’ at the top of the page.
- Press the blue ‘Join Waitlist’ button on the pop-up.
- Once granted access, return to Settings to enable the Apple Intelligence toggle.
Waiting Period: Early adopters have reported relatively short wait times, but as more users install the beta, wait times may increase. Apple is gradually rolling out access to manage demand effectively.
Post-Access Setup: Once you gain access, your device will download necessary models for Apple Intelligence features. Note that you only need to request access on one device; other devices will automatically sync the necessary models.
Notable Exclusions in Beta 1
It’s important to be aware that the beta version of iOS 18.1 does not include all the anticipated Apple Intelligence features. Notable omissions include:
- ChatGPT Integration: Advanced conversational AI is not yet available.
- Image Playground: The interactive photo editing tool is missing.
- Genmoji: This advanced emoji generation feature is also excluded.
Future Updates
The full range of Apple Intelligence features, including those listed above, is expected to launch in the fall alongside the official releases of iOS 18.0 and macOS 15.0.
